Glen Garioch unveils TR-exclusive Cask 91

Beam Suntory-owned Scotch brand Glen Garioch has partnered with World Duty Free to release a single cask whisky available exclusively in Aberdeen Airport.

Glen Garioch 1997 Cask 91 has matured for more than 20 years in ex-Bourbon barrels

Glen Garioch has released 188 bottles of 1997 Cask 91, which spent more than 20 years maturing in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels.

Manuel Gonzalez, Beam Suntory marketing manager for global travel retail, said: “Glen Garioch is one of our most precious liquids and we are very excited to be working with World Duty Free again to launch this Glen Garioch exclusive single cask at Aberdeen airport.”

Available from 2 September, coinciding with the start of oil industry trade event Aberdeen Offshore Europe 2019, the whisky was distilled on 9 September 1997 and bottled in May this year.

The 21-year-old expression is priced at £285 (US$347) and is said to have notes of custard cream with a sweet and creamy taste as well as flavours of caramelised peanuts, peppermint and eucalyptus with a lingering vanilla finish.

Ron Welsh, master blender at the Glen Garioch distillery, said: “Glen Garioch 1997, Cask 91, is a very rare whisky that has been perfectly matured for more than two decades. At the peak of its perfection, this exquisite liquid is the perfect whisky for those travelling through Aberdeen Airport who want to take a taste of the city back home with them.”
