Johnnie Walker range explores Scotch regions

Diageo has released a new Johnnie Walker range that highlights four Scotch whisky regions: the Highlands, Lowlands, Islay and Speyside.

Each whisky in the Johnnie Walker Black Label Origin Series is 12 years old

The Johnnie Walker Black Label Origin Series has been launched as a limited edition in global travel retail.

It is a range of four 12-year-old blended Scotch whiskies that include single malts “from some of the world’s most famous distilleries”.

Each Scotch in the collection is made exclusively using whiskies from a particular region. Three of the whiskies (Highlands, Islay and Speyside) are blended malts, made using only malt whisky.

Johnnie Walker Black Label Highlands Origin is made with whisky from Clynelish and Teaninich “at its core”, with notes of red berry and stone fruits.

Johnnie Walker Black Label Islay Origin contains liquid from distilleries including Lagavulin and Caol Ila and is said to target drinkers who “want to explore whiskies with a warming maritime smokiness”.

Johnnie Walker Black Label Speyside Origin is described as a “light and fruity whisky with hints of cut green apples and orchard fruit”, and is made with whisky from Cardhu and Glendullan.

Blended Scotch Johnnie Walker Black Label Lowlands Origin contains grain and malt whisky from distilleries such as Glenkinchie and Cameronbridge. It is said to have a “sweet, creamy vanilla character and notes of toffee”.

“This limited edition series is the perfect starting point for adventurous spirits that are keen to go on a journey of flavour exploration, and we’re delighted to play a role in helping to demystify Scotch and its many flavour profiles,” said Anna MacDonald, marketing director, Diageo Global Travel.

“We look forward to bringing this incredible collection to life with some exciting in-store experiences in global travel retail.”

Diageo will host “immersive” travel retail experiences to take whisky fans on a “journey” of Scotland’s whisky regions.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the distinct favour profiles that distilleries from each of the four corners of Scotland offer, and what they individually add to our whiskies,” said Johnnie Walker whisky specialist George Harper.

“The Johnnie Walker Black Label Origin Series gives us the opportunity to take people on a guided tour of the whisky producing regions that give us the signature notes of Johnnie Walker Black Label.”

The packaging for the new range “doubles as an accompanying guide” to the whiskies and their relative regions. The range is available globally from July in selected travel retail stories at an RRP of US$46.

Last month, Johnnie Walker unveiled two limited edition Game of Thrones-themed expressions, called A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire.
