Hoxton Spirits bottles banana-flavoured rum

In its first spirits venture outside of the gin category, Hoxton Spirits has created a banana-flavoured rum.

Hoxton Banana Rum is made using both fresh and dried bananas, which are macerated for five weeks in handpicked Caribbean rums aged between three and eight years.

The rums hail from Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, and are mainly made from sugarcane molasses.

Hoxton Banana Rum is a majority blend of column still rums, with 15% pot still rums. It contains no artificial colourings or flavours.

On the nose, the rum is said to have “distinct” molasses character with underlying banana notes, leading to a stronger banana flavour on the palate and a “smooth, just off-dry” tropical fruit note on the finish.

Bottled at 40% abv, Hoxton Banana Rum is available exclusively online from 31dover.com at an RRP of £32.95 (US$43).

Gerry Calabrese, creator of Hoxton Spirits, said: “This is a huge milestone for me to finally be in a position to expand the brand into other spirit categories.

Last year, Hoxton Spirits joined the pink gin trend with the launch of an expression made with rosehip, rose and bergamot botanicals.
