Archie Rose creates Vegemite-inspired spirit
Australian drinks producer Archie Rose Distilling has created a limited edition expression inspired by Vegemite, called ArchiMite Buttered Toast Spirit.
ArchiMite Buttered Toast Spirit is recommended mixed into a Bloody Mary cocktail
Said to be inspired by “Australia’s love for umami-rich breakfast spreads”, ArchiMite is distilled with freshly churned uncultured Pepe Saya butter and Sonoma sourdough toast.
The un-aged spirit is described as having a “big, mitey character at the front followed by biscuity, bready notes”.
In a post on the distiller’s Instagram account, ArchiMite Buttered Toast Spirit was described as the brand’s “wildest creation yet”, which took “a lot of research and development” to create.
Just 3,000 bottles of ArchiMite have been created, each bottled at 40% abv and priced at AU$79 (US$55) per 700ml bottle.
Suggested serves for the new spirit include mixing it into Bloody Mary cocktails to provide “a boost to its savoury notes”, and mixing with espresso and sugar syrup to create a “savoury and rich” twist on the Espresso Martini.
Last year, the Australian spirits producer announced it had commenced construction of a second Sydney distillery, which is expected to be completed later this year.
