This week, Campari Group unveiled the latest famous face to front its Campari Red Diaries 2018 – Blade Runner 2049 star Ana de Armas.

Cuban actress de Armas will star alongside Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy in the short film, called Entering Red, which is described as “fuelled with mystery and romance”.

Directed by Italian filmmaker Matteo Garrone, the “suspenseful and intriguing” film will see de Armas follow scarlet clues in Milan, Italy – the birthplace of the classic apéritif.

SB headed to London’s acclaimed Dandeylan bar to sample cocktails from its third and final drinks menu.

Bar owner Ryan Chetiyawardana took to social media last month to announce that Dandelyan will close its doors after four years of operation and reopen as “something brighter, shinier and more fitting”.

The third and final chapter of its Modern Life of Plants menu is centred around three core ingredients: mint, hops and grapes.

Pictured is the Re-Supply Sour, a combination of Empirical Spirits Koji Hooch, Compass Box Oak Cross, nutrient-enriched cardboard and raspberry.

Country music stars and fans came together this week to support The Crown Royal Purple Bag Project, the Canadian whisky brand’s largest generosity drive. The brand aims to distribute one million care packages to military heroes and those impacted by unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters by 2020.

On Tuesday, Crown Royal teamed up with country music star Thomas Rhett to host a volunteer takeover in downtown Nashville at The Bridgestone Arena Plaza. Rhett and fans filled purple bags with uplifting notes and food items.

 

Sombra Mezcal has revealed the winner of its first-ever sustainable cocktail competition – Marshall Davis of Gallo Pelón Mezcaleria in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Davis’s winning cocktail, Hyena Fang, beat 100 competing recipes. The serve took the peanut-infused the smoky spirit and complemented it with ingredients like amontillado Sherry and an eco-conscious grapefruit scrap oleo-saccharum.

As his prize, Davis will receive a week-long, all-expenses-paid environmental apprenticeship at Sombra Mezcal’s distillery in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Liqueur brand Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto held its inaugural cocktail competition, the Art of Italicus Aperitivo Challenge, this week. The winning bartender was Katie Renshaw of etta Restaurant in Chicago with her serve, A Stranger Among Us, which combines Italicus with salers apéritif, lemon and celery juices and dry cider.

For winning, Renshaw receives a three-city tour of Europe, guest bartending shifts at leading cocktail bars in London, Barcelona and Milan.

Matthew Schulze of Underdog in New York earned second place, with Rachel Sandra Johnson of Raised in Chicago taking third.

Stylist Vanessa Traina hosted the Grey Goose Réveillon to celebrate the launch of Grey Goose La Fontaine, a limited edition Martini fountain.

Guests included Victoria’s Secret angel Martha Hunt, Joseph Altuzarra, Carlos Mota, Carlos Souza, Cosima Vesey, Olivia Perez, Vashtie and Alexandra Fritz Khoudari.

The evening was capped off with a dessert demonstration by chef Ludo Lefebvre, of Los Angeles-based Trois Mec, paired with a round of Espresso Martinis.

Pernod Ricard-owned Havana Club celebrated Old Fashioned Week by partnering up with leading bars around the world to launch Havana Club Seven Heaven – a global cocktail party offering free Havana Club 7 cocktails.

Participating bars include Baba au Rum in Athens, Greece; Licorería Limantour in Mexico City; and Solange Bar in Barcelona, Spain.

This week saw the opening of a new interactive museum from Estonian spirits maker Liviko. The firm is also inviting visitors to tour its distillery in Tallinn for the first time in celebration of its 120th anniversary.

Each tour will consist of three stages: a walk around the production buildings; a visit to the interactive museum; and the chance to take part in a drinks masterclass with the Liviko Academy of Beverages, led by experienced sommeliers and bartenders.

Jack Daniel’s has revealed the top 10 finalists in the third instalment of its Tennessee Calling cocktail competition. Judges will now travel around the UK to visit each of the finalists and sample their serves before crowing three winners, who will present their cocktails to guests at New York’s Dead Rabbit bar and visit the Jack Daniel’s distillery.

This year’s finalists include Alex Walker of the Artesian at the Langham, London; Juris Kenins from the American Bar at The Savoy, London; Ben Alcock of Bristol’s Filthy XIII; Benji Davies from Little Mercies, London; Desmond Yatigammana of Laki Kane, London; Eric Tinca of London’s Satan’s Whiskers; Ethan Youel of London’s Hix Bar; Kamil Szuchaliski of Soho House Farmland, Oxford; and Tom Hay-Owens of The Venner, Bridgeport.
