Masso, Miller and Wilson to open new London bar
Bartenders Dre Masso, Megs Miller and Rhys Wilson are set to open Fam, a new bar and kitchen based in west London.
Fam, located in west London, is described as a “fuss-free” and “intimate” bar and kitchen
Located behind Selfridges in Duke Street, Fam is the result of a collaboration between bar consultancy Comunidad – formed by Masso, Miller and Wilson – and bar operators Eric Yu and Martin Malley. Yu and Malley previously joined forces to open Soho’s 68 & Boston in 2015.
Miller will manage Fam, described as a “fuss-free” venue that celebrates family, both biological and chosen.
In order to “create a strong sense of family throughout the company”, Fam staff will be encouraged to become partners in the business, but without any financial investment.
Fam will also pay homage to the “uniquely eclectic, global nature” of London with its food and drink offering and contemporary design.
The walls of the venue feature portraits of prominent London bartenders, past and present, as well as local producers. A wall filled with vinyl records selected by family and friends will also be available for guests to peruse.
The bar and kitchen will, “wherever possible”, use locally sourced and “rescued” ingredients and materials in its menu and interior design. The food menu has been created by Tim Ross-Watson and includes bar snacks inspired by nostalgic family recipes.
Cocktails will be priced at £10.50 (US$13.40) and include the Sir Duke, made with London vodka, kiwiberries, nettle cordial, Bloomsbury pastis and house citrus; and The Claymore, which consists of blended whisky stirred down with English sparkling wine cordial.
The food menu includes: Aunt Zoë’s vintage English cheddar cheese spread and sourdough chips; Dingly Dell ham and cheese toastie on homemade bread with tomato compot; and a ‘cup-a-soup’ made with butternut squash, roasted garlic and white truffle oil with buttered milk-bread soldiers .
Fam, which has a total of 50 covers inside and 20 cover on the outside terrace, will launch in December. It will be open Monday-Saturday.
