Premier Inn creates interactive gin map

British hotel chain Premier Inn has created an interactive map of gin distilleries in the UK.

The interactive gin map has been launched to mark International Gin and Tonic Day

To mark International Gin and Tonic Day (19 October), the hotel chain has highlighted 87 gin distilleries across the UK from the most northerly, Shetland Reel in the Shetland Islands, to the most southerly, Salcombe Distilling Co in Salcombe, Devon.

The map features distilleries that offer tours and tastings.

Premier Inn launched a similar map highlighting whisky distilleries in the UK for World Whisky Day in April this year.

London is home to the highest amount of gin distilleries, with 13 in total.

With the recent boom in gin, the interactive nature of the map means that any newly opened distilleries can be added.

A Premier Inn spokesman said: “We’re always looking to encourage people to explore parts of the UK that they may not have considered before.

“The interactive map has been built to inspire gin fans to discover the country’s fascinating gin history and tap into the continuing trend for gin.”

UK gin sales and exports passed the £2 billion (US$2.6bn) barrier for the first time last month, according to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association.

The full interactive gin map can be seen below.
