Powers Three Swallow Irish whiskey debuts in the US

Pernod Ricard-owned Irish Distillers has launched a new single pot still expression under its Powers Irish whiskey brand in the US, called Three Swallow.

Powers Three Swallow is available to buy in the US

Powers Three Swallow is made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, then tripled distilled in copper pot stills. It is matured in Bourbon barrels before being finished in aged Sherry casks.

The expression is described as a “modern representation of what the original Powers whiskey tasted like back in the days of its original John’s Lane distillery”.

Three Swallow has been distilled at the Midleton distillery in County Cork.

On the palate, the expression has “rich, smooth nutty flavours followed by a wave of green apple and citrus notes”.

The Irish whiskey takes its name from when the Power family would bring a small flask of Powers whiskey on their coach journey to enjoy, but not enough was consumed to interfere with their jobs.

The name was also inspired by the migration of the Irish swallow, which signifies the beginning of Ireland’s distillation season. Historically, Powers has used two or three swallows to indicate the age, quality and purity of its products.

Powers Three Swallow is available from select liquor stores across the US.
