Glengoyne returns to UK travel retail

Ian Macleod Distillers has re-introduced its Glengoyne Scotch whisky brand to UK airports with the launch of its travel retail-exclusive Glengoyne Spirit of Oak collection.

The Glengoyne Spirit of Oak collection includes four single malt whiskies

The Glengoyne Spirit of Oak single malt collection will be available to purchase from World Duty Free-managed airport stores nationwide.

The first two whiskies to launch from the collection are Glengoyne Cuartillo and Glengoyne Balbaína.

Glengoyne Cuartillo (40% abv) carries an RRP of £49.99 (US$63) per one-litre bottle and has been matured in American Oak oloroso Sherry casks, said to give the whisky notes of toffee, green apple and vanilla.

Glengoyne Balbaína is bottled at 43% abv with an RRP £58.99 (US$75) per one-litre bottle. The whisky has been aged in first-fill European oak oloroso Sherry casks and has flavours of honey, raisins, red apples and cloves.

Launching in the UK travel retail market in January 2019 will be Glengoyne Pedro Xíménez Cask Finish and Glengoyne 28 Year Old.

Glengoyne Pedro Xíménez Cask Finish will have an RRP of £89 (US$113) per 700ml. The 46%-abv whisky is said to be rich and intense with flavours of fresh oak, spice and a touch of caramelised sugar on the palate. The whisky has been matured in European and American oak and finished in Pedro Xménez Sherry casks.

Finally, the brand’s ultra-premium 28-year-old expression has been aged in first-fill Sherry casks. Bottled at 46.8% abv, Glengoyne 28 Year Old will carry an RRP of £420 (US$535) per 700ml bottle, and is said to have a “heart of rich fruit and elegant spice”.

Ian Macleod Distillers global travel retail director William Ovens said: “We are delighted that Glengoyne is returning to UK airports, as we know there have been frequent requests from travellers and malt enthusiasts as they have been passing through UK airports.

“Our range gives consumers the unique opportunity to explore whiskies which have been matured in a range of high quality Sherry oak casks – a process which is rooted in the DNA of Glengoyne.”
