Glasgow’s first rum distillery in 300 years to open

Two rum enthusiasts are to open Wester Spirit Distillery in Glasgow next month, thought to be the first rum distillery in the Scottish city in 300 years.

The “innovative” Wester Spirit Distillery will open in Glasgow next month

Wester Spirit Company is the brainchild of Zander Macgregor and Allan Nairn, who are both based in Glasgow.

The distillery is inspired by the city’s “heritage, reputation and strong connection in distilling rum”.

Located in Partick, Glasgow, the new distillery “steps away from conventional copper stills” and instead uses stainless steel.

The Genio still features fully programmable technology to increase the efficiency of the distilling process and has the option of manual control to change small details in the flavour profile.

According to the distillery, the Genio still will allow Wester Spirit Company to reproduce its recipe with “unrivalled accuracy”.

The distillery will also “meet the growing demand for spiced rum” by increasing its production limit from 250 bottles per month to 6000.

Wester Spirit Distillery will open in November and will offer tours, with a masterclass in the history and process of rum production followed by a cocktail-making session.
