Malfy taps into pink gin trend

Malfy is the latest brand to enter the pink gin category with the launch of Rosa Gin, made with Sicilian pink grapefruit and rhubarb.

Malfy Rosa is flavoured with pink grapefruit and rhubarb

Rosa, which means ‘pink’ in Italian, has been made using pink grapefruit peel and Italian juniper, which has been infused in neutral grain spirit for 36 hours.

Five botanicals, including lemon, grapefruit, angelica root, orris root and coriander are then distilled for five hours in a vacuum still.

The resulting spirit is pale pink and “bursting with fresh, citrus notes”.

Elwyn Gladstone, founder and owner of Biggar & Leith, owner of Malfy Gin, said: “We’re excited to introduce Malfy Gin Rosa to the UK. Taking its name from the Italian word for ‘pink’, it’s a fresh and natural gin with an Italian juniper base.

“Our team at Torino Distillati, Beppe Ronco and Denis Muni bought in a huge quantity of Sicilian pink grapefruit – which we macerated in spirit and then distilled. We blend this distillate with juniper and re-distil in our vacuum still to get a delicious, fresh tasting expression of this fruit.”

Malfy Gin Rosa is presented in a frosted bottle that features five rings to represent the pink grapefruit peel used in its production.

Malfy Rosa is bottled at 41% abv and carries a RRP of £28 (US$37) per 700ml bottle.
