Douglas Laing debuts 40yo Port Dundas whisky

Independent Scotch bottler Douglas Laing & Co has launched a 40-year-old single grain single cask whisky from the closed Port Dundas Distillery to mark its 70th anniversary.

The Port Dundas 40 Year Old has been created to mark Douglas Laing & Co’s 70th anniversary

The Port Dundas 40 Years Old joins the XOP Platinum range and follows the launch of Ardbeg 25 Years Old in March.

A “very rare” aged single cask will be released during each quarter of 2018 as part of the commemorative series.

The company’s father and daughter duo, Fred and Cara Laing, has chosen each of the four single casks.

The expression has been bottled at natural cask strength (59.1% abv) and is “absolutely bursting with gingerbread spicy sweetness, dark fruits and home baking”.

It is packaged in a moleskin-hinged box and is accompanied by a certificate hand-signed by Fred and Cara Laing.

Douglas Laing chairman Fred Laing said: “Back in the 1970s, my father probably anticipated this cask of Port Dundas packing a 12-years-old blend, so all those years later, it’s great to see and taste it being bottled as part of our, really his, Platinum anniversary series.”

Port Dundas 40 Years Old is available at an RRP of £350 (US$462).

In May this year, Douglas Laing appointed Chris Leggat to the position of CEO as Fred Laing moved to the role of company chairman.
