Held on 5-6 March at the Jacob K Javits Convention Center, Vinexpo New York hosted 3,446 people, including 500 exhibitors from 23 countries.

A highlight of the show was an appearance by American businesswoman and television personality Martha Stewart, who was meeting with suppliers for her direct-to-consumer wine service and scouting for new producers.

The educational conference and masterclass programme also proved popular, with visitors keen to learn about topics such as the shifting patterns of consumption and production, the effects of climate change, the purchasing power of millennials, and the rise of e-commerce.

More than 1,000 pre-scheduled meetings between exhibitors and visitors were facilitated through Vinexpo’s complimentary One to Wine Meetings matchmaking service.

Guillaume Deglise, CEO of Vinexpo, said: “Our expectations in launching Vinexpo New York were high and we are thrilled that they were exceeded.

“The US is in the spotlight right now given its status as the number one-consuming market in the world, and with interest in imported wines, especially among millennials, at an all-time high.”

Vinexpo New York will return to the Javits Center in an expanded format on 4-5 March 2019. Registration will open in September 2018.

Established in 1981, the Vinexpo umbrella holds wine and sprits trade exhibitions in four locations: Bordeaux, Hong Kong, Tokyo and New York.

In September 2017, Vinexpo initiated a new concept, Vinexpo Explorer – which is a two-day programme of business meetings and vineyard discovery.

Vinexpo Hong Kong will take place on 29 to 31 May 2018 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.
