Bar launches David Bowie-inspired cocktail menu

A New York cocktail bar has unveiled its latest drinks menu, with each creation on the list inspired by one of the many personas of David Bowie.

(L-R) Aladin Sane, Ziggy Stardust, Major Tom, Jareth The Goblin King, Halloween Jack

BKW by Brooklyn Winery’s new menu includes drinks inspired by the Thin White Duke as well as Bowie’s other alter egos – Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and the Man Who Fell to Earth.

Created by BKW bartenders Nicole Kanev and Wesley Straton, each of the seven cocktails on the new menu feature ‘unique’ and ‘Bowie-esque’ elements, such as colour-changing ingredients, edible stars and Bowie’s ‘infamous’ lightning bolt.

Drinks on the menu includes the Ziggy Stardust, which is a mix of sparkling wine with gin, clarified lemon juice, thyme syrup and garnished with an orange jelly star; Aladin Sane, which mixes rye whiskey with Aperol, Cynar, lemon and egg white, garnished with Bowie’s lightning bolt; and the Major Tom, made from citrus charcoal-infused mezcal, Pimms No 2, Drambuie, grapefruit and honey.

To create the new menu, Kanev and Straton worked in conjunction with the Brooklyn Museum, which is currently hosting the ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition.

The exhibition gives Bowie fans the chance to see hundreds of artefacts from his career, including the singer’s lightning bolt jumpsuit, handwritten lyric sheets and original sketches of album artwork – including Bowie’s 1975 album, Young Americans.

Brooklyn Winery’s Bowie-inspired cocktail menu will be on sale while the ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition is running at the Brooklyn Museum, until May 2018.

The exhibition launched at London’s V&A in 2013 and since then has been visiting museums around the world.
