First bottled-in-bond American single malt launches

Long Island Spirits has celebrated its 11^th anniversary by unveiling the first bottled-in-bond American single malt whiskey.

Pine Barrens Bottled in Bond from Long Island Spirits is the first American single malt whiskey to carry the federal government’s designation.

The limited release expression has been aged and bottled according to rules set out by the US government’s Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits legislation.

In order to be labelled as bottled-in-bond, the whiskey must be the product of one distillation season from one distiller and created at one distillery; it must also be aged in a federally-bonded warehouse under US government supervision for a minimum of four years.

Rich Stabile, founder and master distiller of Long Island Spirits, said: “I am thrilled by the cult-like following Pine Barrens has developed over the years, and the lucky few who are able to secure a bottle of this first release will delight in [its] enchantment.

“We will continue to expand our bottle-in-bond offerings to include our Rough Rider Bourbon and rye whiskeys as well.”

Pine Barrens Bottled in Bond has been described as a “richly textured spirit with a cigar and cedar richness” and “botanic-like qualities of eucalyptus and juniper”, with additional notes of “honey sweetness, cinnamon oatmeal, raisin and cherry skin”.

The spirit is produced from a barley wine ale, which is double-distilled by Long Island Spirits in copper pot stills and filled into new American oak casks for four years.

Bottled at 50% abv, just 300 bottles of Pine Barrens Bottled in Bond will be released for sale, costing US$100.
