Wild Turkey and McConaughey hand out 4,500 turkeys

Actor Matthew McConaughey has teamed up with Wild Turkey Bourbon to deliver 4,500 turkeys to the people of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky ahead of Thanksgiving this week.

The Oscar-winning actor has been creative director of Wild Turkey since 2016

On 4 November, while celebrating his 48th birthday, McConaughey joined forces with Wild Turkey master distillers Jimmy and Eddie Russell as well as 250 volunteers to hand out turkeys to families across the town, as well as giving 500 of the birds to a local food pantry.

McConaughey said: “In one of our very first conversations, master distillers Jimmy and Eddie Russell told me that the town of Lawrenceburg is what keeps the Wild Turkey family running.

“The support system in this community is amazing – in one form or another, everyone has some kind of relationship with Wild Turkey – and that’s why we were so grateful to have the resources to give back and say thanks to Lawrenceburg residents.”

The Kentucky Bourbon brand has released a new video documenting the volunteers efforts titled Wild Turkey Gives Back.

The film follows the volunteers and the Interstellar star as they travel across the town of Lawrenceburg handing out turkeys and saying thanks to the people who have supported them.

Wild Turkey master distiller Jimmy Russell said: “Lawrenceburg has been our home for generations, and the people who live here support our passion for making great whiskey every day.”

He continued: “We wanted to say thanks to Lawrenceburg this Thanksgiving and to encourage people around the country to do what they can to assure no one goes hungry this holiday.”

In addition to the deliveries in Lawrenceburg, Wild Turkey has also made a donation equaling 50,000 Thanksgiving meals to the anti-hunger organisation Share Our Strength to help families in need across America.

The Dallas Buyers Club actor has been creative director for the Kentucky brand since 2016.
