Riga Black Balsam unveils cherry-flavoured expression

Latvia-based Amber Beverage Group has extended its Riga Black Balsam herbal liqueur line with a cherry-flavoured expression.

Riga Black Balsam Cherry is bottled at 30% abv and has a “strong” cherry aroma

The new variant has been released to coincide with the 265th anniversary of the creation of the brand’s original recipe.

Bottled at 30% abv, Riga Black Balsam Cherry has been made by combining Riga Black Balsam with cherry juice. It is described as having a “harmonious” balance between the sweetness and bitterness of the drink with a “strong” cherry aroma.

The company plans to increase beverage sales in both the Baltic and export markets, and are planning to focus on growth in the US and UK markets in the coming years.

Amber Beverage Group’s global director, Māris Kalniņš said the choice of the cherry flavour was down to the latest consumption trends in the world, which show that consumers prefer sweeter drinks and smaller amounts of alcohol.

“The choice of a new taste was also guided by the choice of an international consumer,” said Kalniņš.

“Unlike currants that are known mostly in Europe, the taste of cherry is known globally – a flavour that will be understood both here in Europe as well as over the ocean.”

Riga Black Balsam is currently available in 35 world markets.

In May this year, Amber Beverage Group entered the UK drinks market through the acquisition of a “strategic stake” in distributor Cellar Trends.
