Johnnie Walker releases whisky and ginger ale RTD

Diageo is targeting Australia’s ready-to-drink market with the launch of a pre-mixed whisky and ginger ale under its blended Scotch whisky brand Johnnie Walker.

Johnnie & Ginger targets day-time drinking occasions

Bottled at 4.6% abv, Johnnie & Ginger is available in both bottle and can format, and combines Johnnie Walker Red Label with natural ginger ale.

It is described as having a “crisp and refreshing” taste and is recommended served poured over ice.

According to Diageo, the new expression is a “premium alternative” to traditional RTD’s or beer and has been designed for afternoon get-togethers and day-time drinking occasions.

“With the warmer months just around the corner, Johnnie & Ginger is a great choice for Australians looking to make their weekend get-togethers with friends that little bit more special,” said Jonathan Morgan, Diageo marketing manager.

Featuring the iconic Johnnie Walker Striding Man, the new packaging has been designed to have visual impact and recognition at shelf.

The launch of Johnnie & Ginger will be supported by a wider marketing campaign featuring outdoor, PR, social and point of sale support.

Johnnie Walker will also release a remastered Johnnie & Cola RTD range at the same time with a new look and improved cola.

Johnnie & Ginger is available from liquor retailers in Australia from mid-August.

Bottles (345ml) will be sold in packs of four for an RRP of AU$19.99; cans (375ml) will be sold in packs of six for an RRP of AU24.99.
