Islay to get new Scotch whisky festival

A new Scotch festival offering whisky-making advice over the course of five days will launch on Islay in October this year.

Theatre of Drams Whisky Symposium is a new Islay whisky festival

The Theatre of Drams Whisky Symposium, described as a “educational celebration of whisky”, will take place on 23-27 October at Bowmore Hall, on the Isle of Islay.

As part of the event, theoretical lectures will take place each morning and will follow the linear process of whisky making. Afternoons will offer classes on peat cutting, as well as distillery tours, tastings, and meetings with independent distillers and bottlers.

Speakers include former Bruichladdich master distiller Jim McEwan, who will showcase whiskies from independent bottler Hunter Laing.

Theatre of Drams is an expansion and development of the Whisky Course Islay hosted by Whisky for Girls (& Guys).

Guests can buy individual tickets to events taking place during the festival, or sign up to a full five-day package. See Theatre of Drams’s page on Eventbrite for more details.
