Pickering’s Gin unveils Edinburgh Fringe bottling

Edinburgh-based Pickering’s Gin has launched a limited edition expression to mark the 70th anniversary of both its original recipe and the city’s Fringe Festival.

Pickering’s Original 1947 marks the 70th anniversary of both its original recipe and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Created in partnership with the festival, Pickering’s Original 1947 has been distilled precisely to the old recipe exactly 70 years on from its creation.

Six days after the first Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1947, Pickering’s marks the date a distiller wrote a nine-botanical gin recipe at Mount Mary, Bombay. The recipe came into the possession of the distillery’s co-founder Marcus Pickering in 2013.

The limited edition bottle features the 70-year heritage story with “distinctive” Edinburgh Festival Fringe labelling.

It is described as “spicy and sweet”, with the cardamom, coriander, clove and cinnamon spice “leading to a crisp, refreshing and long finish”.

“Being able to celebrate the 70th anniversary of our original recipe gin with the world’s biggest and most successful arts festival is truly humbling,” said Pickering.

“We know how important heritage, dedication and time is when it comes to making good gin and the same could be said when explaining the success of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.”

Matt Gammell, Pickering’s co-founder and head distiller said: “This limited edition bottling is incredibly exciting for us as a distillery and we’re confident that this old recipe will be gratefully received by fans of gin and the Fringe alike.

“The mix of original Bombay botanicals includes cinnamon, which adds a decidedly warming and spicy kick to the spirit.”

Limited to 650 bottles, Pickering’s Original 1947 is available to buy for £29.95 on the Pickering’s Gin website.
