London bartenders to host Grenfell Tower fundraiser

A group of leading bartenders from across London have partnered to host a one-off event on 9 July to raise funds for those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire disaster.

Under the umbrella of new fundraising initiative Community Spirit, the fundraising event will see London venues come together to create a range of cocktails, with 100% of revenues going to charities connected with the tragedy.

To be held at Westbank in Notting Hill, bars already confirmed as participants include Callooh Callay, City Social, Trailer Happiness and Barrio Bars.

The event will see the drinks menu change throughout the evening, depending on who is heading up the bar.

Alongside the cocktails, there will be live music, DJ sets – including a guest set from The Shapeshifters – food, a charity auction and both indoor and outdoor space will be open.

We Stand Together t-shirts from the W11 Campaign will also be on sale during the day.

Tickets are priced at £20 and include three full-size cocktails, with more available to buy on the day. All income will go to charities working with Grenfell Tower fire survivors and those caught up in the tragedy, including community charities The Harrow Club and Rugby Portobello, The K&C Foundation and the London Fire Brigade Welfare Fund.

Sly Augustin, of Notting Hill’s Trailer Happiness has lived in West London all his life and is heading up the team.

“The events at Grenfell have affected me deeply. But the one ray of light was the incredible response from the community,” Augustin said. “Regular people stepped up and gave time and possessions without a second thought.

“The bar world has an equally strong sense of community – people you don’t know will go out of their way to help you as standard. It was no surprise when people within the industry reached out and offered support immediately after the Grenfell disaster. What I didn’t realise is just how many people wanted to help and just how many brands were willing to get involved.

“I can’t wait to see the culmination of this generosity, and we intend to grow Community Spirit beyond this recent tragedy, fundraising to give back to local communities across the capital on an ongoing basis.”

Community Spirit will take pace from 3pm to 1am at Westbank Arts and Music, 3-5 Thorpe Cl, London W10 5XL. See communityspirit.fund for more information and tickets.
