Marie Brizard revives rare Titanic liqueur

French liqueur brand Marie Brizard is set to unveil an “exceptionally rare” liqueur once served on board the doomed RMS Titanic at this year’s Vinexpo in Bordeaux.

Marie Brizard Danzig liqueur was served on-board the HMS Titanic in 1912

The rare bottle comes from the cellar of private collector Michel-Jack Chasseuil.

Chasseuil identified the 100 rarest bottles, and grouped them together in a book – 100 Extraordinary Bottles: From the Most Beautiful Wine Cellar in the World – showcasing Marie Brizard Danzig, a liqueur dating from 1912, which was linked to the fate of the RMS Titanic.

Chasseuil brought the liqueur at an auction in Versailles in 1988, from the descendants of Louis Renualt, the founder of Renault cars.

Renault’s ancestor wanted to cross the Atlantic in April 1912 aboard the steamer but for unknown reasons, decided against it.

He then tracked down the Danzig liqueur, after learning it was served aboard the ship.

At one time described as having the reputation of “purifying one’s blood”, the liqueur contains 22-23 carat gold shards and was created by a Dutchman in the 16th century.

The Marie Brizard Danzig liqueur will be at Vinexpo Bordeaux from 18-21 June at the Marie Brizard Wine and Spirits stand, Hall 1, Stand BD287.
