Phillips Distilling to distribute Marca Negra mezcal

Minneapolis-based Phillips Distilling Co has added ultra-premium mezcal brand Marca Negra to its distribution portfolio, expanding its presence in the “leading edge” category.

Marca Negra offers six mezcal expressions based on agave varietals – Espadín, Dobadan, Tobalá, Ensamble, San Martin, and Tepeztate – each made in different locations and to a different style.

Production processes are fully organic, with the resulting mezcals typically bottled between 95 and 105 proof (47.5-52.5% abv).

The brand will join Meteoro Mezcal in the Phillips Distilling portfolio

“For a while now, we have been hearing from mixologists across the country about their increased interest in mezcal, we have been searching for the perfect opportunity to join this leading edge category,” said Mike Duggan, CEO of Phillips Distilling Co.

“In Marca Negra we found the ideal ultra-premium partner to complement brands like Prairie Organic Spirits, Tomatin Scotch, Casa Centinela Tequilas and La Hechicera Aged Rum to balance our ultra-premium portfolio. We couldn’t be more honoured to welcome Marca Negra to our family.”

Pedro Quintanilla, Marca Negra co-founder and managing partner, added: “Mezcal Marca Negra is poised for growth in the North American market. Given the interest in mezcal among US consumers, it was important for us to partner with a company that not only understands the intricacies of artisanal spirits, but also has the resources to amplify our reach.

“We were very impressed with Phillips Distilling Co’s proven track record and could not have asked for a better partner to help us grow our brands.”

Marca Negra is currently rolling out across the US priced from US$54.99-$199.99 per 750ml bottle.

Phillips Distilling Co has roots tracing back to 1912 when it was a newsagent and sweet shop. After Prohibition, the firm started distributing alcohol products, and developed its own in-house product, Phillips Peppermint Schnapps, in 1935.
