Heinemann hails Frankfurt e-comm ‘milestone’
Gebr. Heinemann and Fraport’s Frankfurt Airport Retail (FAR) travel retail e-commerce and home delivery joint venue has been fully integrated into Frankfurt Airport’s shopping platform – a “milestone” for the retailer.
As a result of the development, travellers can now order goods from the Heinemann Duty Free & Travel Value range from the Frankfurt Airport site up to 90 days prior to departure and have the purchases shipped to an address in Germany.
To use the service – which is offering free delivery in its introductory phase – customers must hold a valid ticket from Frankfurt to a destination within the EU.
Heinemann and Fraport launched the JV project in 2015 to tap into increasing demand for digital services – the first time Heinemann had partnered with an airport in this way.
The resulting FAR concept is the first partner integrated into the Fraport-run online shop.
“This launch is an important milestone for our digital strategy,” said Markus Knauer, head of digital commerce at Gebr. Heinemann..
“From now on, the delivery service from Heinemann can be offered in third-party web shops, automatically processed by our IT systems and executed by our logistics department
“As a result, we are expanding our range of services for our business partners by adding a further facet with a view to the end customer. In addition, we are expanding our position as an important and innovative partner.”
In a joint statement, the two FAR managing directors, Johannes Sammann and Georg Fuhrmann, added: “With the joint online shopping platform, we once again reaffirm our successful partnership with Fraport. The integration of our special pre-order and home delivery services strengthens our competitiveness in the travel retail market.
“It also enriches the shopping experience of travellers via Frankfurt and increases sales.”
E-commerce is becoming an area of increased competition in travel retail. In January, Pernod Ricard Travel Retail EMEA upped its e-commerce offering with the launch of The Glenlivet ‘Reserve and Collect’ service in the UK.
