Davos Brands snaps up Sombra and Astral Tequila

Importer and marketer Davos Brands has acquired a “controlling interest” in Sombra Mezcal and Astral Tequila for an undisclosed sum.

Davos Brands has distributed Sombra Mezcal and Astral Tequila since 2015

The deal comes just five months after New York-based Davos Brands acquired Aviation American Gin, said to be one of the fastest-growing spirits brands in the US.

The transaction includes the full worldwide rights to both brands as well as the newly opened Sombra Mezcal distillery in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Richard Betts, the founder of Sombra Mezcal and Astral Tequila, will remain a significant equity holder and will continue to play an active role in the company as its founder and global brand ambassador.

“I’m super excited to go ‘all-in’ with Davos Brands – the team shares my vision and passion for craft spirits of the highest quality. I have no doubt that with Davos’ continued leadership, these brands will achieve their true potential,” said Betts.

CEO Andrew Chrisomalis, added: “We are thrilled with the opportunity to expand our investment in these great brands and people.  Premium agave spirits continue to be on fire and our entire team is energized by the growth potential of Astral Tequila and Sombra Mezcal.”

Davos Brands has distributed both brands as part of its US portfolio since 2015. The company was established by Guillaume Cuvelier, founder of Svedka Vodka, in 2014.
