Irish whiskey brand Bushmills has introduced a Bourbon cask-matured expression, Bushmills Red Bush, to the US market in a bid to draw new consumers to the category.

Bushmills introduces new Bourbon cask-matured expression, Bushmills Red Bush

A “smooth” blend of triple distilled Irish single malt and Irish grain whiskey, Bushmills Red Bush is said to offer toasted oak and vanilla aromas, with hints of caramel and nutty flavours on the palate.

“While we’ve been innovating with our aged whiskeys for centuries, we’re excited to embark on a journey with the millennial drinker,” says Colum Egan, master distiller at The Old Bushmills Distillery.

“Maturing the whiskey exclusively in first fill Bourbon barrels creates an extremely smooth spirit that will resonate with frequent Bourbon fans and first time Irish whiskey drinkers.”

Bushmills Red Bush is best enjoyed neat as a shot or with mixers such as cola, soda or ginger ale.

In September 2017 Bushmills – Ireland’s oldest working distillery – celebrated the graduation of apprentice cooper Chris Kane, who became the fourth generation of his family to cooper casks for the distillery.
