Tullamore Dew has reinvigorated the Irish custom of sipping a beer and whiskey, side by side, in its latest marketing campaign Dew & A Brew. The launch will focus mainly on Bristol with outlets such as Tobacco Factory, Steam and Butcombe Brewery Pubs stocking the serve from March onwards. In London, Tullamore Dew has partnered with ETM Group where Tullamore Dew will be paired with Longarm ‘Birdie Flipper’ Irish Red Ale. From 1 March, consumers can enjoy the combination in bars such as Greenwood, Jugged Hare and Botanist Broadgate Circle for a chance to win a VIP masterclass. 

On Thursday, one of Team SB headed down to The Connaught Hotel in London for an immersive whisky testing ahead of the first-ever International Scotch Day. Led by Diageo Reserve’s whisky ambassador, Colin Dunn, the group sampled Cardhu 21 Year Old, Lagavulin 8 Year Old, Royal Lochnager Special Reserve, Talisker 25 Year Old, Caol Ila 30 Year Old, and Mortlach 18 Year Old. The Connaught Bar’s master mixologist Agostino Perrone crafted the ‘Essence’ cocktail for the occasion – comprising Lagavulin 16 Year Old, barley and osmanthus flower infusion, oloroso Sherry, Macadamia nuts, orange sugar and Tonka beans, garnished with edible peat.

On Thursday, SB headed down to Rum & Sugar in London for the The Rum Masters 2017 in a drive to find and reward the finest rum brands on the world stage. An expert panel of judges tasted rums from categories ranging from super premium blanco to aged gold rums.

On Wednesday, SB was invited to an exclusive preview of New York City bar BlackTail’s first ever residency at London’s Bloomsbury Club Bar. Forming part of the venue’s Club Residencies Project, BlackTail’s Jesse Vida and Harrison Ginsberg kicked off the three-night guest spot with an array of classic cocktails including four of BlackTail’s most popular drinks alongside four BlackTail twists on its own cocktail menu.

In celebration of London Pisco Week (4-10 February), Japanese-Brazilian-Peruvian restaurant Sushisamba drew from its Peruvian influences to create three delicious cocktail recipes for the week. Pictured is the Reveillion cocktail, a combination of pomegranate molasses, Japanese citrus, muddled grapes and spiced sugar. Churned through crushed ice and spiked with Pisco.

This week, SB hosted the first heat of The Wenneker Swizzle Masters cocktail competition – Rum Punch. Held in Mayfair’s famed tiki nightclub Mahiki, 10 original Rum Punch recipes were put through their paces by an expert judging panel. The winning cocktail will be revealed in the March edition of the magazine.

Held last night at The Bike Shed in Shoreditch, London, the global final of the Beefeater MIXLDN cocktail competition saw top bartenders go head-to-head in a bid to be named champion, and distil their own gin with Beefeater. Guests enjoyed gin cocktails while entrants presented their original cocktail recipes inspired by a London-based film.

Dubai Duty Free (DDF), along with more than 1,500 entities from the government, semi-government and private sector, took part in Dubai Municipality’s annual ‘Car Free Day’. The programme aims to reduce carbon emissions and environmental pollution while raising awareness of sustainable practices. Pictured is Colm McLoughlin, executive vice chairman and CEO of DDF along with 12 other cycling enthusiasts from DDF, who rode their bicycles to and from work.

 First-time Omega Dubai Desert Classic winner, Sergio Garcia (pictured centre) was on-hand to conduct the Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise draw for a Mercedes S500 following his victory at the Emirates Golf Club. The Spanish player drew the winning Finest Surprise ticket no. 0567 in Series 1646 and announced the winner as Biddhya Dhakal. Garcia was accompanied by McLoughlin, and COO, Ramesh Cidambi; executive vice president, corporate services, Salah Tahlak; and Sinead El Sibai, senior vice president, marketing.

Kentucky-based Wilderness Trail Distillery is expanding its borders again with the purchase of an additional 13 acres adjacent to the main distillery site on Lebanon road, Danville. Plans include additional barrel-houses for ageing, a new visitors centre and space for future events.
