AB InBev and Keurig create home booze maker
Brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev and coffee maker Keurig Green Mountain have partnered up to develop what is thought to be the world’s first in-home alcohol dispenser.
The new venture would build on the Keurig KOLD technology
The two companies have signed an agreement to enter into a joint venture that will be tasked with inventing a system that could work with beer, wines, spirits, cocktails and mixers.
The new company will source a combined 50 employees already working at AB Inbev and Keurig.
The machine is said to be the first of its kind to deliver the convenience of one-cup dispensers such as Keurig and Nespresso’s coffee machines, but for alcoholic beverages.
In a press statement, the two companies said the new venture would “build on the Keurig KOLD technology and system innovations and AB InBev’s brewing and packaging technology, and evolve them within the realm of the full adult beverage category.”
“We’re thrilled to be moving forward with this joint venture and look forward to working closely with the Keurig Green Mountain team to explore the possibilities of what we can achieve together,” said Nathaniel Davis, CEO of the new venture. “We can’t wait to get started.”
Bob Gamgort, Keurig Green Mountain CEO, added: “We are excited to partner with AB InBev to develop a new system for the adult beverage category. We look forward to combining our capabilities and technologies to deliver innovation for consumers.”
Last month, AB InBev agreed to sell SABMiller’s 26% stake in South African drinks group Distell to a state-run pension fund.
