The move marks the first phase in the company’s “long-term strategic plan”, which will also focus on “developing whisky-making in Ayrshire” in the future.
The Lost Distillery Company, which creates blended Scotch whisky inspired by the flavour profiles of closed distilleries, will now operate out of the 2000-acre Dumfries House estate, which was restored by the Duke of Rothesay in 2007.
The new “brand home” will feature office space for the group’s 10 members of staff who manage the business across 40 markets, however staff numbers are expected to double over the next few years.
Now the first commercial organisation to base its headquarters in Dumfries House, The Lost Distillery Company’s site will also feature a whisky bar and VIP hospitality bar.
“The overall aim of our company is to build a world class global whisky business in East Ayrshire,” said Scott Watson, co-founder of Crucial Drinks and The Lost Distillery Company, alongside Brian Woods. “Headquartering our operation at this incredible 18th century estate is a clear demonstration of our commitment to achieving this.
“The protection of Dumfries House is an outstanding achievement that offers huge opportunities for the future, as we share HRH, The Duke of Rothesay’s vision to regenerate the area.
“Our new home on the estate provides the perfect platform to breathe life into Scotland’s lost whisky heritage. We are honoured to be a part of the continued journey at Dumfries House and look forward to showcasing our diverse drinks portfolio to the world.”
Kenneth Dunsmuir, deputy executive director of Dumfries House, added: “We always strive to encourage and support the work of local, innovative companies and have been impressed by The Lost Distillery’s vision to reinvigorate whisky-making in Ayrshire, as well as their desire to create jobs in the local area and provide educational opportunities in a traditional Scottish craft.”
The Lost Distillery Company, owned by Crucial Drinks, first launched in 2013.
