Specialities Brand Champion 2016: Amaro Ramazzotti

Amaro Ramazzotti may be relatively small, but its rate of growth has been mighty

It may be the smallest million-case seller within the speciality spirits sector, but Amaro Ramazzotti bagged the biggest sales increase in 2015.

From a double-digit decline in 2014, the Pernod Ricard-owned bitters brand rebounded in 2015 to grow sales by 13.04% to 1.3m nine-litre cases. Amaro Ramazzotti was also the only speciality spirits brand to achieve double-digit sales success, closely followed by a 9.3% rise from last year’s Brand Champion, Aperol.

The success of both brands is evidence of the ongoing bitter flavour trend that has provoked patrons to up their orders of drinks including the Negroni, Aperol Spritz and the classic gin and tonic.

Ricard stayed relatively stagnant at just 0.6% growth, while you may notice Pernod Ricard’s other anis brand – Pastis 51 – has not been listed this year having fallen below the one million nine-litre case mark.

When it comes to bitters, Jägermeister appears to be slowly starting to recover sales following a 6% decline the previous year, rising 1.5% to 6.9m cases in 2015.

Fratelli Branca’s bitters brand Fernet Branca experienced marginal growth at 2.3% – a similar story reported by Campari, which grew 1.6%.
