Director partners with Diageo for new whiskeyBy Annie Hayes
Hollywood director Brett Ratner has collaborated with Diageo to launch The Hilhaven Lodge – a blend of “three different styles of whiskey spanning three decades”.
The “posh playground” of Hollywood’s elite; Hilhaven Lodge in Beverly Hills was established in 1927 as the escape of an American real estate mogul, and is described as “a living, breathing representation of Hollywood’s heyday”.
The new namesake whiskey was developed in a partnership between spirits company Diageo and Hollywood director, and current owner of Hilhaven Lodge, Brett Ratner, and is a blend of three different styles of whiskey from three decades – Bourbon from the 2000s, Tennessee whiskey from the 1990s and rye whiskey from the 1980s.
The expression is said to be “rich in candied fruit notes” from the Bourbon, and “dark brown caramel notes” from the Tennessee whiskey.
The mid-palate offers “light spice notes of clove” from the aged rye, and the finish is long and smooth, with notes of vanilla, “a subtle sweetness and a vibrant oak nuance”.
The bottle packaging is inspired by the Lodge itself; the blank space created by the bottle’s label creates a ‘H’.
The Hilhaven Lodge is hand-bottled at Stitzel-Weller in Louisville, Kentucky at 40% abv, and will be available in California and Florida in limited quantities for an RRP of US$49.99.
