Glenfiddich launches 14yo Bourbon cask whisky
William Grant & Sons has launched a 14-year-old variant of its Glenfiddich Scotch whisky brand, which pays homage to the “shared history of American and Scotch whisky”.
Glenfiddich 14 Year Old is aged in ex-Bourbon American oak casks before being finished in deep charred new American oak
Exclusively available in the US as a permanent addition to the brand’s core range, Glenfiddich 14 Year Old has been matured for 14 years in ex-Bourbon American oak casks before being finished in deep charred new American oak sourced from The Kelvin Cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky.
“American oak casks have had a significant influence on single malt Scotch whisky maturation and the flavour profiles we find today,” said Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich malt master.
“By maturing this expression in Bourbon casks we’ve created a beautifully intense flavour, reflective of the relentless passion we have for producing incredible single malts.
“With notes of fresh oak and velvety caramel, our 14 Year Old remains true to Glenfiddich’s heritage of producing fruity and deeply flavoured whiskies and is the perfect marriage of Bourbon sweetness and Scotch complexity.”
Presented in a deep navy blue casing inspired by the colour of the Kentucky state flag, the whisky is said to have a flavour of woody spices, creamy toffee, candied oriange and toasted oak.
Bottled at 43% abv, Glenfiddich 14 Year Old will be rolled our nationally across the US this autumn at an RRP of US$49.99. Last month, Glenfiddich launched The Original expression in the UK, inspired by the brand’s 1963 Glenfiddich Straight Malt.
