Queen’s Bowmore Scotch whisky fetches $50,000
A bottle of 1980 Bowmore single malt Scotch whisky donated by Queen Elizabeth II has fetched US$50,000 at auction.
One bottle of Bowmore whisky from The Queen’s Cask has been sold for US$50,000
The bottle is from The Queen’s Cask, which was filled at the Bowmore Distillery in 1980 to commemorate Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee.
It is one of two bottles that has been donated personally by the Queen to raise funds at Minnesota’s Regions Hospital Foundation’s 26th annual Wine Auction – marking the first time the bottling has been available in the US.
Each year since the whisky was bottled in 2002, the Queen offers three bottles to her Clerk of Royal Cellars, Simon Berry of Berry Bros. & Rudd, to be donated to charity.
A anonymous bid of US$50,000 for bottle no. 513 of 648 has been accepted the Regions Hospital Burns Centre, a specialist treatment centre for burns victims.
A second bottle – no. 512 – is to be auctioned by Bonhams in New York on 20 November, but the hospital is accepting early bids, reports Twin Cities.
