New royal palace Scotch whisky launches
By Amy HopkinsA new Scotch whisky by the Speyside Distillery has been created for sale in the UK’s historical royal palaces.
Spey Royal Choice Scotch whisky has been launched in association with the UK’s Historic Royal Palaces
Launched exclusively under licence from non-profit organisation Historic Royal Palaces, Spey Royal Choice continues the distillery’s royal association, which began in 1815 when poet Lord Byron sent a bottle of Spey Single Malt Whisky to King George III.
The no-age-statement single malt has been created by the Speyside Distillery, in Aviemore, which was purchased by Harvey’s of Edinburgh 17 months ago.
“Spey’s royal link continues today through the Spey Royal Choice brand and our important relationship with Historic Royal Palaces,” said John Harvey McDonough, CEO of Harvey’s of Edinburgh.
McDonough added that the company now intends to extend distribution of the bottling across “new global markets”.
Aged in Sherry casks, Spey Royal Choice is described as having an aroma of toffee and gooseberry with a “dense creamy flavour”.
The expression, bottled at 40% abv and with an RRP of £150, is now available at three of the UK’s royal palaces including the Tower of London, Hampton Court and Kensington Palace, as well as online at historicroyalpalaces.com.
Gina George, retail director at Historic Royal Palaces, said: “We are delighted to be working under licence with Harvey’s of Edinburgh.
“The development of Royal Choice has combined the best of British manufacturing with our royal story to create a distinctive new whisky”.
