Wetherspoon to list calories on drinks menu

JD Wetherspoon is to become the “first” UK pub and bar chain to detail calorie information for all drinks on its menu and website.

Wetherspoon will detail calorie information for all drinks on its menu and website from 8 March

The company, which has more than 900 pubs across the UK and Republic of Ireland, will introduce the new format on 8 March.

Wetherspoon chairman, Tim Martin, said: “We want our customers to have as much information as possible so that they can make informed decisions about the food and drink they enjoy at our pubs.

“We were the first pub company to highlight the number of calories on all of our meals and it seems a logical step to now do this for all the drinks that our pubs serve.”

The concept has already been implemented in the US – in 2014, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ruled that chain restaurants with more than 20 or more venues must state the number of calories in alcoholic drinks.
