The Lakes Distillery bolsters southern presence

Cumbria’s first distillery in 100 years, The Lakes Distillery, has promoted Poppy Fisher to the newly-created role of events and business development executive in London.

Poppy Fisher has been promoted to the role of events and business development executive

Fisher, who has been with the Bassenthwaite-based distillery since its inception in 2014, will focus on driving sales in the south, as well as event management and furthering brand awareness in the region.

Based at The Yacht London, a partner of The Lakes Distillery, Fisher will also be heavily involved in Junipalooza, Tobacco Dock’s gin carnival, The Telegraph Whisky Experience and Whisky Lounge London 2017 – one of the capital’s biggest whisky festivals.

Maria Duddin, events, business development and PR manager of The Lakes Distillery, said: “Poppy is the ideal person to really drive sales and awareness of our award winning brands further in the South.

“She has been with us since day one and understands perfectly the heritage of both Cumbria and the distillery… She will be taking the passion and ethos of the Distillery down with her to London.”

“It’s an exciting time for me, making the move down to London,” said Fisher. “Both Cumbria and The Lakes Distillery are something I have been passionate about from the get-go and I can’t wait to help play my part in driving forward Cumbrian business to the Southern market.”

The Lakes Distillery produces whiskies, gins and vodka using pure water from the nearby River Derwent.

The distillery expanded its team in December with the appointment of The Macallan’s former whisky maker as its new master blender. Its first malt whisky will be ready in 2018.
