Langley bolsters ‘small-batch’ with new still

British third-party spirit producer Langley Distillery has commissioned a new 300-litre copper pot still to offer a wider range of small-batch options to customers.

Langley Distillery’s new McKay still will boost its small batch production capabilities

The refurbished still, known as McKay, is said to date back to the mid-1800s and is now fully operational alongside the three other Langley stills.

“We produce spirits for all sizes of companies and it is important for us to meet the needs of our customers,” said Natalie Wallis, group commercial manager at Langley Distillery parent, Alcohols Limited.

“The addition of McKay to our current family of stills provides further options for boutique brands with smaller requirements.

“Jenny, our largest still, is 12,000 litres and is believed to be one the biggest stills in Europe, however we have a new still in production which, at 15,000 litres, is going to top this. This new still will help us to further meet the demands of the global market.”

Langley Distillery produces spirits including gin, vodka, rum, brand and whisky for more than 100 global brands, and its services include the creation of bespoke and off-the-shelf recipes, plus consultancy.

In 2016 UK gin sales in the on- and off-trades exceeded £1 billion for the first time, according to a market report by the Wine and Spirit Trade Association.
