Hendrick’s Gin to host curling competition

William Grant & Sons-owned gin Hendrick’s will mark Burns Night with a Clandestine Curling Competition for bartenders at London bar Happiness Forgets.

Hendrick’s is to host a curling competition with a twist to mark Burns Night

Set to take place on 29 January, 24 bartenders will battle it out in a “peculiar take on the sport” of curling, which is typically played on ice.

Instead, participants will compete using an “abnormally small” curling set on the polished wooden bar top.

Hendrick’s Gin, while not the usual Burns Night tipple, is distilled at the Girvan distillery in Scotland, close to Alloway, the birthplace of noted poet Robert Burns.

“We like to think Hendrick’s Gin, Robert Burns and the ancient sport of curling all share a mysterious connection with Ayrshire as their birthplace,” said Ally Martin, UK brand ambassador for Hendrick’s Gin.

“It only seemed right to put our heads together with the team from Happiness Forgets to create an unusual alternative to celebrate the radical style of one of Scotland’s most famous sons.”

Want to keep it unconventional but still mark Burns Night with a Scotch? Don’t miss SB‘s round up of more unusual whiskies to sip on 25 January.
